Amylase is an enzyme that
breaks down carbohydrates. Anyone on a
low-carb diet knows some of the key
high-carb, starchy culprits by heart:
bread, pasta, cereals, potatoes—all of
the foods that many like to eat in
abundance—hence the weight gain. And,
while carbohydrate intake is limited on
a high protein/low-carb diet, most plans
do allow a limited intake.
Carb Defense contains
a special proprietary blend of white
kidney bean extract that is 50 times
more potent than other white kidney bean
extracts in blocking amylase, the enzyme
responsible for absorbing carbohydrates.1†
Inhibiting amylase means that rather
than being absorbed, starchy
carbohydrates such as pasta, potatoes
and bread pass through the digestive
system.†
Some starch digestion
actually begins in the mouth, because
saliva contains amylase. After its brief
stay, it travels to the stomach, where
the acid environment “deactivates”
amylase. In the small intestines, (a
more alkaline section of the digestive
system) pancreatic secretions containing
amylase once more make this enzyme
active. Amylase breaks down starch into
several smaller molecules, including
maltose, a disaccharide, and dextrins—permitting
absorption of the carbohydrates into the
body, and making it harder to control
weight gain.2
White kidney bean
extract (Phaseolus vulgaris) has been
shown in scientific studies to inhibit
the enzyme amylase, making it a natural
choice for anyone with a low-carb
lifestyle, or anyone simply wanting more
carbohydrate control.3-5†
Because it's
stimulant-free, Carb Defense† can be
taken before meals day or night.
There is some evidence
that kidney bean extract may also
support healthy blood lipid levels. In a
Norwegian study, the lipoprotein profile
and fat excretion improved in overweight
individuals in the study. |
