Magnet Therapy
"The natural force within each one us is the
greatest healer..." - Hippocrates
As
part of our Alternative Medicine and natural healing selection Rite
Care Pharmacy presents Magnetic Therapy. We realize the importance of
alternative medicine in today's health care. Magnetic or Magnet
Therapy is a low cost, non-intrusive, and nontoxic system of medicine
used worldwide.
Although
magnet therapy has a long history, with written records dating back to
600 B.C., like acupuncture, magnet therapy has only recently become an
established form of natural healing in the United States. In
Europe, the healing powers of magnets were not recorded or officially
advocated until the sixteenth century. First by the Swiss
physician and alchemist, Paracelsus and about the same time by Dr.
William Gilbert who prescribed magnets for Queen Elizabeth I. A
little over a century later, Dr. Franz Mesmer, in Switzerland and Dr.
Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, conducted experiments,
treatments, used and advocated the use of magnets for healing.
The theory
behind magnet therapy is similar to that of acupuncture where the
north seeking pole of permanent magnets are placed against the skin at
specific points on the meridian channels of energy with the specific
aim to improve energy and blood flow. The major difference
however is that magnet therapy is non-invasive and doesn't cause any
additional pain. The main objective of magnet therapy is to
promote and enhance the body's own healing process and pain relief
without introducing foreign objects or chemicals into the body which
may be contaminated or have undesirable side effects. Magnets
have the power to influence or cause movement, attracting or repelling
other objects. Each molecule has an alignment usually different
from neighboring molecules. By placing small magnets at
strategic points on the meridian of the body, the magnetic force
causes molecules to align themselves according the the magnetic
field generated by the magnets. It is this alignment that is
used to help the body make a quicker recovery than it would on its own
and to relieve physical pain caused by numerous ailments. Some
conditions benefited by magnet therapy include stress, bacterial,
fungal and viral infections, pain relief as well as certain central
nervous system disorders.
In most simple
cases, magnet therapy can be self-administered. It works well
with other natural therapies for speeding up recovery time and
alleviating pain. The most effective form of magnet therapy,
used in healthcare, are small disc shaped permanent magnets often
supplied with a self-adhesive patch for holding the north seeking pole
against the skin. Since magnet placement requires some basic
knowledge of the meridian, healthcare professional have developed a
system where magnets are strategically placed within orthopedic
supports and braces such as those for back supports as well as knee
braces, ankle braces and elbow braces to name a few further
simplifying self-administration.
Whether you
suffer from headaches, arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, or sports
injuries magnet therapy may offer a safe, inexpensive, non-intrusive
and effective method of relief. Scientific studies have established
that magnetic energy passes through most known material and affects
all living things. It has been observed that injuries register
south-positive energy instantaneously at the time of injury.
During the healing process the injured site registers north-negative
energy. Further more it has been shown that north-negative magnetic
fields have many healing benefits.
Caution:
The body's subtle electromagnetic fields can be affected by the
weakest magnets. For safety, please adhere to the following
precautions:
-
Never use
magnets if you have a pacemaker or other such devices.
-
Magnets
should not be used on the abdomen during pregnancy.
-
Magnets
should not be used if there is any bleeding externally or internally
(magnets promote blood flow).
-
Magnetic
beds should not be used more than eight to ten hours.
-
Magnets
should not be used on the abdomen within an hour after eating as it
may interfere with peristalsis (wave-like contractions of smooth
muscles of the esophagus, stomach and intestines).
-
Do not apply
the positive magnetic pole of magnets unless under supervision of a
medical professional.
-
Magnets
should only be used externally.
-
Keep magnets
and all other small objects away from children.
Don't forget that magnets
will affect all electrical equipment including hearing implants and
hearing aids. They may also affect other magnetic material such
as data-storage magnetic media such as disks and tapes as well as the
magnetic strips on credit cards and other such objects.
Always consult a medical
practitioner is cases of severe or persistent health problems,
especially in cases of sudden, acute pain or problems that linger more
than a couple of days. |
